Independent Accounting

An independent accountant generally has no financial or other interest in a company or individual who hires him. A major part of his job centers around tax planning, tax return preparation and preparation of financial statements. He may do bookkeeping, accounting and /or auditing for an individual or small firm. In some cases he may offer financial or retirement planning advice, employee benefits planning, business restructuring advice, forensic accounting, litigation assistance, risk management guidance, as well as assistance with mergers and financing.

Many independent accountants have a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting or a related field, and may be a Certified Public Accountant.
